What to Wear

There is no dress code. Come as the version of yourself you want your family to remember.

A family in their session

This is your portrait. Wear what feels like you.

We've photographed families in evening gowns and families in jeans. Saris and sundresses. Suits and sneakers. Traditional clothing from every culture. There is no wrong answer — only what makes you feel like the best version of yourself.

The only thing we ask: whatever you wear, make it intentional. This portrait will hang on your wall for decades. Wear something you'll be proud of when your grandkids point at it and say "is that you?"

Not sure? Here's what works.

If you want guidance, think about your favorite outfit — the one that makes you feel confident when you catch yourself in a mirror. That's the one. A simple jacket over a clean top. Your favorite jewelry. A dress you love. Traditional clothing that honors your heritage. All of it photographs beautifully.

Casual is fine. Formal is fine. The only thing that doesn't work is something you're uncomfortable in — because it shows.

The two regrets we hear most

From families at their ordering appointment, twice a month: "I wish I'd brought my husband." And: "I love these portraits, but I wish I'd dressed up more."

If you're on the fence about who to include — bring them. If you're on the fence about what to wear — wear the version of you that you'll feel proud of in twenty years.

A few things to keep in mind

Your feet and shoes will be visible in your portraits, so plan accordingly. Solid colors tend to photograph best because they keep the focus on your face and eyes — but patterns can work beautifully too. And if white is your thing, just know that the eye is drawn to the brightest part of a portrait.

The only things we ask you to skip

Jewel tones are gorgeous. Earth tones are gorgeous. Black is timeless. Wear what you love and we'll make it look incredible.

We have a dressing room you can use. Due to session timing, please arrive with one outfit chosen and hair and makeup complete. Wardrobe changes are not available for most session types.
